Where This Story Began

One evening in 1973, at our family dinner table, I asked, "Mommy, what does salvation mean?" My mother, June, silently prayed for the right words—and God gave her an answer so simple, so beautiful, that it changed our family forever. Years later, even after being diagnosed with ALS, she worked to turn that moment into a book to help other families.

Today, this story has been translated into six languages and is helping children around the world understand God's most significant promise. We hope it blesses your family as it has blessed ours.

About the Authors

June Gray Wyrick grew up as an only child in Magnolia, Arkansas, dreaming of a home filled with the laughter of children. That dream came true as she poured her heart into teaching first grade—and later into motherhood. June was known for her soft-spoken voice and warm hospitality. She never met a stranger. Her deep faith and love for God’s Word inspired her to begin writing this book, with the hope of helping families discuss faith with their children. Though she didn’t live to see it finished, her legacy lives on—through her husband, Kelvin Sr., her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and every child around the world who discovers God’s love through this story.

Kristen Wyrick Jones, daughter of June Gray Wyrick, brought her mother’s vision to life through this book. For thirty years, she served in youth, college, program, and mission ministries at First United Methodist Church of Houston. Today, she leads Strategic Global Missions, a nonprofit organization that partners with local leaders in regions where the Gospel is rarely heard and life is often shaped by poverty or oppression. This book—now used worldwide to help children understand salvation—was written in honor of her mother's legacy. Kristen lives near Houston, Texas, with her husband, Dan. They have three children and four grandchildren.
